This afternoon, the Senate will continue to vote on amendments to the Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) spending bill, including a harmful amendment offered by Sen. Lee (R-UT) and Sen. Cotton (R-AR) that would weaken our nation’s fair housing law.

Please call your Senators TODAY and ask them to OPPOSE the Lee/Cotton amendment!

The Lee/Cotton amendment would prohibit HUD from implementing its Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) Rule. The AFFH rule provides a process, data, and tools to local communities to better enable them to analyze the local fair housing landscape and set fair housing priorities and goals. AFFH creates opportunity and economic mobility by helping states and communities better target their investments in housing, transportation, infrastructure, and economic development. If enacted, the Lee/Cotton amendment would undermine our nation’s efforts to expand opportunity and fairness to all.  The attached fact sheet from Policy Link and the National Fair Housing Alliance provides more information about AFFH.
