Stories of Impact

The Town of Babylon, NY, announced that Wyandanch Rising broke ground on the first phase of a $500 million public/private revitalization project in Suffolk County. The groundbreaking marks the construction of a mixed-use development with 91 rental units, along with retail and residential areas. Once completed the project will create 150 new jobs.

The National Development Council (NDC) has worked with The Town of Babylon, providing development assistance for over three years. NDCs East Team Director, Kevin Gremse played an integral part during the development and planning stages of this 40-acre project. Gremse was responsible for assembling the financing that made this project a reality. Wyandanch Rising has received $6.6 million in Federal Funds, $44 million in Low Income Financing along with tax credits and grants.

In a Press Release issued by Governor Cuomo on July 16th  he said, “Today’s groundbreaking is great news for the Wyandanch community and New York State is proud to be a key partner in moving this transformational project forward,” Governor Cuomo said. “The Regional Councils continue to have a strong and positive impact on our communities – not only through helping businesses grow and expand, but through job-creating, community revitalization projects like Wyandanch Rising. When all is said and done, this project will provide 150 new jobs for New Yorkers and a much brighter future for one of the most economically distressed communities on Long Island.” See full article here.
